What to Expect at Your First Therapy Session in Our Moorestown Office

Starting therapy can feel exciting, hopeful, and maybe a little nerve-wracking. At Mind, Body, and Soul Therapy & Counseling in Moorestown, we want your first visit to be as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Here’s what you can expect when you arrive and during your initial session.

Arriving at the Office

When you arrive, simply enter the building and head to the appropriate waiting room. Our Moorestown office has clinicians on both the first and second floors, so make sure you’re in the waiting area closest to your clinician’s office. You don’t need to check in with a receptionist, your clinician will meet you in the waiting room at your scheduled appointment time.

Your Intake Session

Your first appointment is called an intake session. This is your clinician’s opportunity to get to know you and understand what brings you to therapy. They’ll ask a lot of questions about your current concerns, history, and goals. You may talk about:

• Your main symptoms or challenges (such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship concerns, etc.)

• Your personal and family history

• Major life events or recent changes

• How these challenges are affecting your daily life

Your clinician will also want to know what you hope to gain from therapy. This could be learning new coping skills, improving relationships, reducing stress, or simply having a safe place to talk.

Creating Your Treatment Plan

By the end of your intake, your clinician will work with you to create a treatment plan tailored to your needs. This plan acts as your roadmap for therapy, it might include the type of therapy you’ll use (like CBT, DBT, or mindfulness-based approaches), the frequency of sessions, and specific goals you’ll work toward together.

Our Goal for You

Therapy is a collaborative process. The first session is just the beginning of a journey toward better mental health and well-being. At Mind, Body, and Soul Therapy & Counseling, our goal is to provide you with a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered to make positive changes.
