Sam Wurst is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional (CCATP), and a Certified Mindfulness-Informed Professional (CMIP). She holds a Master’s degree in Forensic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Stockton University. With over 10 years of experience, Sam brings a calm, grounded, and client-centered approach to her work with adolescents and adults.

Sam specializes in treating anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, and life transitions. She also supports clients navigating identity exploration, communication challenges, and relationship concerns. Her therapeutic style is direct and supportive, often infused with humor, to help clients feel like they’re talking to a trusted ally. Sam uses a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills, and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/tapping) to support emotional regulation and personal growth.

Clients can expect a space where they are free to move at their own pace—there’s no rush to cover a specific topic or skill before they feel ready. Sam focuses on meeting clients where they are, allowing their goals and comfort level to guide the work. She often incorporates movement, mindfulness, and tapping exercises into sessions for those who find these tools helpful.

Sam works with clients ages 14 through adulthood and is LGBTQIA+ affirming, culturally competent, and experienced in working with diverse sexualities, including kink-aware and non-traditional relationship dynamics. She is passionate about helping clients build emotional resilience and confidence so they can take ownership of their own healing process.

In addition to her clinical work, Sam serves as the Director of Operations at Mind, Body, and Soul Therapy & Counseling. In this role, she helps lead the day-to-day and long-term functioning of the practice, supporting all operations—big and small. She plays a key role in cultivating a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-driven workplace culture that reflects the heart of MBS.

Sam was drawn to the field of therapy out of a deep interest in human behavior and a desire to walk alongside others through difficult seasons. She finds the most meaning in watching clients grow into themselves—when they no longer need therapy to “do life,” but instead have the tools and self-trust to thrive on their own.

Outside the therapy room, Sam enjoys concerts, crocheting, crafts, and horror movies. Her self-care includes reading, yoga, walking her dog, and exploring new outdoor food spots.

A favorite phrase she often uses in therapy is: “Your brain isn’t your friend, but you can train it.”
